Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan

On Bosan Road At about 10 Km away from Multan city (city center) there is a university known as
Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan which is one of the largest universities in Punjab. It was formerly known as Multan University then it renamed to pay homage (in honor of) to a great Sufi Saint Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya (RA, 1171-1262 AD) in 1979.

This attractive and a beautiful institution (main campus) covers an area of about more than 960 acres of land. This institution started functioning(established) in 1975 in the rented building of Government Model School Bosan Road Multan (old campus) with eight departments which shifted to New Campus (present campus) in 1979-80).

It is a general university for science and arts education. Presently, this university has more than 51 departments/institutes/colleges. It is a degree awarding institute in more than 60 subjects, including pharmacy, medical, engineering, humanities, business administration, law, art, music, IT, agriculture and languages.

The university was ranked at No. 8 in General Category ranking of 2014 by Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan (HEC). To improve the academic facilities of remote areas former governor of the Punjab Lt General (Rtd) Khalid Maqbool opened sub-campuses of public sector universities with a vision to transform them into independent universities in future. Up till now following sub-campuses of Bahauddin Zakariya University have been opened.

The present Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr.Tahir Amin is the 13 th VC of the institution. The first VC was Khairat ibne Raasa and Altaf Hussain Qureshi,Nazir Romani,Khauja Imtiaz,Dr. Ishaq,Ashiq Durrani, Dr. Ghulam Mustafa,Dr.Karamat Ali,Dr.Naseer Khan,Dr. Hayat Awan,Dr. Zafrullah and Dr. Khauja Alqama had also been the Vice- Chancellors of this institution.The students of different departments of this university are illuminating the name of this institution at national and international levels. At present there are 40 thousand male and female students and out of 21 thousand, seven hundred are in BS program, 18 thousand are in MA MSc While 300 students are in PhDs.\
