History of Central Jail Multan
On shahr-e- Rashid vehari road Multan near Ghalla Mundi from central jail turn (more), a road straight goes to central jail Multan. This jail was built in 1930 in the British reign before 17 years of the existence of Pakistan. This jail has a vast area having different buildings in it.
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the jail, special security arrangements have been done by the home department of the Punjab Government. This jail has a capacity of 1563 prisoners but there are 2628 prisoners also with 400 prisoners of the capital punishment of Multan and DG Khan. The prisoners get relief in their punishment as a reward on their uniform tailoring, furniture works and carpet knitting.
The former superintendent of the jail Mr. Saeedullah Gondal established a Darood Shareef Bank. In these days, seven Lac Darood Shareef have been read by the prisoners daily. The prisoners who read more Darood Shareef get prizes from IG (inspector general) Punjab Mian Farooq Nazeer.
Thirty two superintendents of the jail have been deployed here yet after the existence of Pakistan. At present Mr. Chaudhary Muhammad Rafique is serving as superintendent of the jail.
