  1. Dear Sir:
I went into a shock when I discovered that the original route, the shortest possible and passing through the most neglected and deprived provinces (Baluchistan & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) which was mutually appreciated and agreed upon by international experts in the development field, which would have created numerous job opportunities and paved the way for rapid industrialization resulting in total stoppage of terrorism and bringing an end to the separatist movements, had been changed by corrupt vested interests and unpatriotic elements without assigning any plausible reason without the knowledge of the Pakistani nation.
    2. Basically it had all been done for the benefit of the PML-N ruling party Ministers, Senators, MNAs and MPAs, because they are mostly feudals and having hundreds and thousands of acres of land which would now be acquired with the Chinese Investment money.
    3. While the original route proposed and agreed to by the experts could have substituted the Indus Highway already constructed and is being used. No additional land was not needed to be acquired, whereas billions of rupees would be needed to acquire the land which is being irrigated by canals and is very expensive as compared to the mostly barren land of Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
    4. It has escaped the notice of the relevant authorities that three times more time and fuel would need to be spent on the allegedly revised route plan.
    5. MOST IMPORTANT: Although I have no military background, but half of my family is or had been serving in the Army, therefore I know for certain that the rail/road is never constructed near enemy territory. A perusal of the revised map would show that 3/4 (three-fourth) of the route is situated and passing within 20 to 50 kilometers of the enemy border (India)…. ….continued p/2

    6. I fail to understand whether this aspect regarding the construction of this road/rail route was taken into serious consideration by the concerned senior military generals and their counterparts. I would humbly submit that this aspect should once again be seriously considered for its pro and contra benefits/damages. Once constructed, this mega project would be impossible to be relocated to its original safe and short route.
    7. If an example is required to be quoted it is conveniently pointed out that such maneuvers to the benefit of the PML-N bigwigs were made in the Motorways with ulterior motives and only for the benefit of the PML-N leaders such as General Majid Malik, Chaudhary Nisar and the then Communication Minister Hoti the Corrupt. It is mind boggling that the GT Road originally known as Sher Shah Suri Road measuring 450 km approximately from Peshawar to Lahore was shorter by almost 150 kilometers than the Motorway. As a matter of fact it should have been the Motorway which should have shortened the distance between Peshawar and Lahore because the latest technology was used in comparison with Sher Shah Suri’s Road. The Motorway increased the distance because it (Motorway) was dragged out of the alignment to include the lands belonging to the feudal lords of which some are already named above….. continued p/3

  3. Its amazing that Pakistan is willing to barter away its sovereignty by letting the Chinese come into Pakistan in such a big way. Chinese have a shylock kind of mind and will spare no effort in extracting their pound of flesh from Pakistan. First of paramount importance will be securing the safety of this corridor. What is the cost of securing a 2500 km corridor and who is going to foot the bill ? Who will secure it ; Pakistan police, Army , The Chinese or Private contractors. Secondly there will be an inflow of Chinese contractors who will be involved in various construction activities and will finally settle here to run their businesses. The Chinese will be quick to move in their own labour (actually Chinese Troops) like they have already done in the Northern Areas. It’s a death knell for the local construction industry. All construction equipment in Pakistan will become Chinese. Some of it will finally be assembled and manufactured here by the Chinese or in Partnership with Pakistani Industrialists. If the industrial base of Pakistan becomes predominantly Chinese with Pakistani partnership there will be political ramifications to contend with. The Chinese will spend lavishly to buy security of this corridor. So in other terms they are buying the loyalty of the people residing along the corridor again this will have political ramifications. The Chinese are game players and they will play Pakistan also. The Soul of Pakistan is the Indus Valley and if that is going to be handed over to the Chinese then Pakistan becomes a soulless Nation. At present my view may sound radical and may be sneered upon because I am an Indian but in the larger context you all have to give a serious thought to the issues I have raised.
